Some of the links will take you to other website - for example, the websites of individual parishes or to other website of the Anglican Church of Canada or the Anglican Communion.  If you can't find what you are looking for, please use the "contact us" link and we will ensure someone gets back to you in a timely fashion.

We  hope you find our website useful and helpful.  If you don't please tell us.

Diocesan Retreat for Lay People PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 27 January 2010 13:41

April 9 to 11, 2010

St. Michael's Retreat, Lumsden

The theme of this year's Lay Retreat is Revisiting the Stories of Easter ... as though we were there.  The silent retreat is an opportunity for lay people, both men and women, to enjoy the hospitality of St. Michael's Retreat House, to listen to addresses by the retreat conductor - Rev. Willie Lourens, to participate in worship - led by Rev. Joyce Hilton, and especially to enjoy the luxury of silence in which to pray, read, meditate, and listen for God's voice, away from the business of ordinary life.

Registration begins at 3 p.m. Friday, April 9, and the retreat begins with supper at 5:15.  Silence begins after the evening orientation session. There will be five addresses on the theme, four worship services, and plenty of free time for retreatants.  The retreat conductor and chaplain can be available for individual meetings if requested.  The retreat ends after a wind-up session at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 11.

You are encouraged to bring reading material.  The Churchmouse Resource Centre will have books and other items available for sale at the retreat.  There is also a small book and gift shop at the retreat.  As well, retreatants may use St. Michael's library.

Each person will have a private room and bathroom, with shower.  Towels and a face cloth are provided, but toiletries like shampoo are not.  Bedding is provided, but some retreatants like to bring a favourite shawl or afghan.  The rooms lock on the inside for privacy, but will be unlocked when you are not in the room.  There are 44 single rooms, and 2 rooms each with a double bed.

Each room has a copy of the Jerusalem or New Jerusalem Bible; you may bring your own bible if you wish.  Dress is casual, and retreatants are welcome to walk in the beautiful grounds.

All meals are provided.  If you have any dietary concerns, please include this information on your registration form, and the excellent kitchen staff will try to accommodate you.

The cost for the weekend is $155, which is paid directly to St. Michael's Retreat at the end of the retreat.  Do not send payment to the diocese. There is a limit of 48 persons for this retreat.

The Diocesan Communication Committee team are volunteers working to get up the new website before synod. The Rev Malcolm French is the chair person and reports to the bishop on the progress of work. The person doing the content is Joanne Shurvin-Martin. Technical support is by the Rev Cheryl Johnson.  Kelly McCurry and Tim Wilkes of Scratchcat Communications Consulting were a tremendous support as we recreated our diocesan website.
