Description

General Purpose: To assist with general clerical, accounting, and bookkeeping support functions.

The Diocese of Qu’Appelle is looking for an experienced Accounting Assistant to help manage day-to-day finance operations. As part of a team, the Accounting Assistant supports the ministry of the Bishop and the work of the diocese in financial matters. Confidentiality, excellent organizational skills and accuracy are important to this role. The ideal candidate must have well- developed interpersonal skills, be able to communicate effectively, consistently meet deadlines, work cooperatively in a team, share the ethos of a Christian organization and have an understanding of Christian stewardship. This position reports to the Executive Officer and works closely with the bishop, clergy, parish wardens and treasurers.

  • This is a part-time position with an expected time commitment of 20 hours a week.
  • Compensation will be paid in the range of $18-$20 per hour.

General accounts receivable functions

  • Prepare and submit customer invoices
  • Code and post payments
  • Prepare and coordinate deposit activities
  • Monitor customer accounts for non-payment and delayed payment
  • Prepare receipts for charitable donations

General accounts payable functions

  • Check, verify and code invoices
  • Upload accounts payable data
  • Prepare payments for signature
  • Monitor discrepancies and unpaid invoices
  • Maintain vendor files

General payroll functions

  • Collect and confirm time sheets
  • Manage the monthly payroll service for approx. 45 people using Payworks
  • Prepare and distribute payroll invoices to parishes
  • Prepare Record of Employments, Clergy Housing Deduction forms

General support functions

  • Assist in month end reporting procedures
  • Monitor areas with accounting problems and discrepancies
  • Assist with employee expense reports
  • Perform filing and general administrative tasks
  • Liaise with other departments/customers/vendors

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 - 3 years experience in clerical accounting
  • Diploma/Certificate in business or accounting is considered an asset
  • Solid computer literacy and confident with MS Office
  • Knowledge of accounting software (QuickBooks Online, Payworks, Receipt Bank)
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and bookkeeping principles and procedures
  • Knowledge and compliance with relevant local, provincial and federal financial
    regulations
