The Death of the Most Rev. Michael Peers

It is with sadness that I inform you of the death of The Most Reverend Michael Peers who served this Diocese for many years.  He was the Rector of the Cathedral Church of St Paul, and Dean of Qu’Appelle from 1974 -1977; becoming Bishop of Qu’Appelle from 1977-1986, serving as the Metropolitan for the Ecclesiastical Province of Rupert’s Land from 1982-1986; ending his ministry as the Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada from 1986-2004.

His ministry included being a strong advocate for the Book of Alternative Services.  He is a signatory to the Waterloo Declaration which brought the Anglican and Lutheran denominations into a full communion covenant.  He was the Primate in 1993 who delivered an unreserved apology to the National Native Convocation Minaki, for the Anglican Churches involvement in Indian Residential Schools.

I am grateful and thankful for his ministry in the Diocese of Qu’Appelle, please join me as we pray at this time for his wife Dorothy, his three children and their respective families.
