Come pray with us - 2015
Lord teach us how to pray Luke 11:1

November 13, 2015

Dear Friends,

I bring you greetings from the Anglican Fellowship of Prayer. We have been working at developing new opportunities to increase awareness of the Fellowship and to support, encourage, inform and inspire all who would wish to deepen their knowledge and experience of prayer. In conversation with the Brothers of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist we became aware that SSJE has developed, in partnership with the Anglican Communion Office, an online meditation practice for Advent that has been designed for all to participate and which I believe will also prove to be especially attractive for younger members of our church: #AdventWord, a Global Advent Calendar.

AdventWord will be coming out in English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese (Traditional & Simplified), Hindi and Tamil. The new Facebook page has already gained over 1,500 likes.. There are introductory and how-to videos on the website

Participants are invited to subscribe to daily emails and then respond with an image of their own on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The result is a crowd-sourced global Advent calendar that creates a sense of worldwide communion and wonder. Last year they had over 50,000 participants from around the world and received over 17,000 images.

My hope is that you will consider participating and inviting your diocese/ parishioners/friends to join. In a time of challenge to reach young people it will be a joy to see so many young people praying together.

Tanya Baleta, a communications consultant in Toronto with experience in church social media, will provide guidance to Canadian churches and clergy about how to take part in AdventWord. If you have questions please email her at and she will be happy to answer them.

Earlier this month the Anglican Communion News Service published a story about this project You will find it at

Yours Sincerely
