Holy Week services at St. Paul's Cathedral
The Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday
April 13 at 10 a.m.
Maundy Thursday: Remembrance of Jesus Sharing the Last Supper with his Disciples Before His Death
April 17 at 7 p.m.
The service includes foot washing, stripping of the altar and chancel, and Holy Eucharist.
Dean Mike Sinclair will preside.
Good Friday: The Celebration of the Lord's passion (the crucifixion and death of Christ)
April 18 at 12 noon
Attendees enter in silence. A wooden cross is carried from the rear of the nave at the chancel steps. The service includes mediation on the cross of Jesus and opportunity for individual prayer at the base of the cross. Attendees may celebrate the Eucharist with reserved sacrament.
Bishop Helen and Dean Mike will preside.
Easter Vigil: the first service of Easter
April 19 at 9 p.m.
The service begins in silence. The nave takes on more light as the service progresses.
The service celebrating the resurrection of Christ will include the Service of Light, including
- the marking, blessing and lighting of the Paschal from a large fire at the rear of the Nave
- The Exultet
- the service of lessons accompanied by psalms
- canticles and prayers
- renewal of baptism vows, and
- Holy Eucharist
"A Great Fanfare" commemorates the triumph of our Saviour over death and the altar and chancel are beautifully adored. Liturgical colours change from red to white.
