What can you expect?
Camp Harding is a beautiful location in Cypress Hills Provincial Park. The camp has four bunk houses, three staff cabins, a washroom and shower facility and a kitchen and dining hall. The camp has running, potable water and electricity. We also have a large fire pit and outdoor chapel.
The goal with our youth camps is to create a transformative and fun experience that will keep them coming back for more. Lessons during this camp this year will focus on the beatitudes. Lessons are either art-based, science, games, or drama.
A typical day at camp begins with wake up, breakfast (help with setting table and dishes), the lesson for the day, free time for about an hour and then lunch. During free time, they can play basketball, ping pong, badminton, soccer, spike ball, do crafts, play board games, or read. After lunch, we participate in afternoon activities (swimming at the pool, horseback riding, wall climbing, beach visit, hiking) as well as giving the kids an opportunity to buy snacks from our tuck shop. We finish the day with supper, an evening activity (survival skills, group games, park program, etc.), worship, a campfire program, and back to cabins for devotional time and lights out.
We have themed graces and dress up themes for suppers. During the week of camp, we have nominations for campers who show a "fruit" of the spirit (peace, kindness, self control, etc.) to be acknowledged at supper each night. This is a fun way to encourage those traits in our campers.
We are offering transportation from Regina and all points west along the #1 to Camp Harding and back. If you are east of Regina, all you need to do is get your campers to Regina for noon on the day of camp (Sunday), and we will do the rest!
The fee is a subsidized amount of $250 per camper. The cost to us for the week is about double that, depending upon how many kids attend. If you know kids who may want to go, but might find the subsidized cost prohibitive, encourage your parish to consider sponsoring them.
